A deity calls out to a young girl... At an early age, that girl takes up vows of purity and chastity and dedicates herself to a life of service to her deity. That girl has adopted the life of a shrine maiden. A shrine maiden officiates over ceremonial dances and religious festivals. She is a chief performer of divinations and assists in many church ceremonies and rites. Other primary shrine maiden duties include addressing church concerns to the public, chronicling church history, and defending her church from attack.
Shrine maidens are often used an messengers. Also, shrine maidens are often included in military actions taken by her church, especially retaliatory actions after an attack on a shrine. Shrine maidens are often engaged in battles against lower planar creatures or undead. Shrine maidens are knowledgable on a variety of topics and are sometimes called upon for this reason.
Shrine maidens must be of good alignment.
Shrine maidens, by definition, are a core part of a church's hierarchy. As a result, a shrine maiden must devote herself to a single deity. Futhermore, she is a shrine maiden of a specific shrine of that deity, as assigned by her church.
Shrine maidens are most common among humans, but can be of any race.
Shrine maidens typically get along well with others, although they will not tolerate evil acts by their companions. Shrine maidens also take great offense at unwanted advances and view them as insult to the beliefs they stand for.

Spells: A shrine maiden is a divine spellcaster that prepares her spells from the shrine maiden spell list by the same method clerics use (she does not get domains). The number of spells she can cast per day is improved by her bonus spells (based on Wisdom). To cast a spell a shrine maiden must have a Wisdom score at least equal to 10 + the level of the spell. The Difficulty Class for a saving throw against a shrine maiden's spell is 10 + the spell's level + the shrine maiden's Wisdom modifier.

Spontaneous Casting: This ability works similarly to the spontaneous casting of clerics, except that instead of swapping for cure spells, a shrine maiden can swap for a good domain spell of the same level or lower than the spell being "lost". (For convience, these spells have been undelined in the list below.)

Scribe Scroll: At level 1, a shrine maiden gains the bonus feat Scribe Scroll.

Turn Undead: A shrine maiden can turn undead as a cleric of her level. She may turn undead a number of times per day equal to 3 + charisma modifier.

Virgin Mind: A shrine maiden becomes immune to mind-affecting spells of the listed level. She can, of course, choose to submit to a mind-affecting spell at anytime.

Sign of Virtue: At levels 7, 13, and 19, a shrine maiden chooses to gain the granted power listed for any one of the following domains: Animal, Charm, Fate, Good, Healing, Knowledge, Protection, Sun. She may not select the same Granted Power twice.

True Calligraphy: At level 15, a shrine maiden gains the ability True Calligraphy. This allows her to scribe a scroll in one day, regardless of the monetary cost.

Positive Energy Storm: At level 20, the shrine maiden can use the spell-like abilty Positive Energy Storm 1/day. Positive Energy Storm works as a Power Word: Kill, except that it can only target undead and that the maximums are changed to 150 hit points for a single target and 250 hit points (max 25 each) for the radius effect. It is cast at her level as a shrine maiden.

Vows of Purity: A Shrine maiden must be a female virgin. If she loses her viginity, she can no longer gain levels as a shrine maiden unless her virginity is restored through the direct intervention of her deity. A Shrine maiden seeks to embody the virtue of purity, and in keeping with this quest she must be of good alignment and worship a deity of good alignment. A shrine maiden can no longer gain levels as a shrine maiden if her alignment deviates from good. In this case, an atonement to 'Restore Class' cast by another member of her faith can restore her ability to gain levels. Shrine Maidens may freely take levels in other classes and return to the shrine maiden class or take levels in classes that continue her spell progression as a shrine maiden, provided she maintains the vows of purity.
